Because the list is large and generates a large volume of mail, there
are some general guidelines about what are acceptable topics and what
are not. Note that these aren't a single person's ideas -- there are no
censors and no censorship -- these are the generally accepted
guidelines that have developed over time.
Here's the short version:
Don't post anything you wouldn't like to receive yourself. About 100
times. Or. put another way, don't post anything you wouldn't say to the
face of the largest, meanest biker in a crowded bar.
Here's the slightly longer version:
- Do post about gaming, what you have played and why you liked/didn't
like it, what you would like to play, what you don't like to play, and
anything else you can think of that has even some marginal gaming
content. Questions are fine; we all learn from them.
- Do not post about things that aren't or can't be related to
gaming, such as: religion, guns and/or gun control, politics, "Virus
Alerts," $250 cookie recipes, or why fuchsia is your favorite color.
- Do not post "test" messages. If you were able to subscribe,
it works. Also, the list has a little gismo that should unsubscribe you
if you post a test message; it works occasionally.
- If you use a WWW browser as your mail tool, make sure you
turn off HTML, winmail, and any other non-ASCII text formatting for
your messages. Post in straight ASCII text.
- Do not post personal attacks or take private arguments or email public.
- Do post For Sale "classified ad" messages if you are an
individual or posting for a friend. But don't overdo it -- no one likes
to live next door to a non-stop yard sale. Once a month per person is
plenty.
- Do not post advertising messages on behalf of a company.

Etiquette And You for even more guidelines on how to behave on a
black-leather-tie list.
