So Redman and I got a game of FoG in last night. Lance showed up and helped out working through the rules.
I don't have much of a bases for comparison. It's more complex then DBx, in general and I think it's going to take a couple of games to really get a feel for it. There are lots of little 'if/then's you have to get used too but I think that's fairly common in a lot of historical rules sets. I like the Points of Advantage system. Essentially you figure out what PoA's you have before you roll in combat, shooting or melee. PoA's are determined primarily by the descriptors of your troop types like Heavy Foot, Bow, Pike, Impact Foot and so on. You add up the + and - for both sides, can't get more then ++ or less then --, and then take the net to determine the number each player needs to roll on a D6 in order to 'hit'.
Once hit's are determined the loser rolls a cohesion test, if he fails the battlegroups cohesion goes down a step or two. Then each battlegroup that took hits in the combat makes a 'Death roll', a D6 roll that if equals or is less then the number of hits your BG recieved, you lose a stand.
Overall I enjoyed it but some allergies had me wiped out so I faded towards the end of the game, and we really only played through a couple of rounds because of it. We plan on giving it another try not this coming wednesday but the wednesday following. _________________ waxing your moms @ss since 1979 |
