I got asked some questions on another of the mailing lists I run and I blogged about my answers.
The questions made me really think and write about my views on religion.
Start with this one: Time to get a Tattoo?
This one is second: Why Do I Care About Other's Religions?
Then go here: Why is Religion Still Here? _________________ "One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important." -Bertrand Russell |

Very interesting reading. The only points I don't follow are in the "Why do I care ..." reasons. I think that the characterizations of religious people as anti-science is too broad - clearly there are religious scientists. I think your issue is with fundamental religious people - those who believe in the Bible as literal truth, or who do not allow reason to govern their lives.
I would like to discuss this item further.

looks like we've been hitting alot of the same blogs. You're pretty much hits all the hot buttons and I'm in agreement, though as Kevin points out I think these mostly apply to fundamentalists.
I'm in the process of trying to decide if it's possible for religion to survive for those who want it, but for it to become a non issue in my own life. Currently it's not and I'm leaning towards the belief that it's probably not possible because of the way many religions are structured to push believers into conversion or intolerance of others. _________________ waxing your moms @ss since 1979 |
